What is Equine Assisted Therapy?
Equine Assisted Therapy provides an outdoor, nature-based environment that promotes relaxation and engagement. Unlike traditional talk therapy, equine-assisted therapies are experiential, meaning you learn and grow through direct interactions with the horses rather than through verbal conversation alone allows you to develop self-awareness, improve social interactions, and build confidence in a non-judgmental space.

Horses are highly sensitive to human body language and emotions, acting as a mirror and offering immediate unbiased feedback to a persons internal state. The counselor helps interpret the interactions helping the client build self awareness, resilience and coping mechanisms.

Sessions are tailored to your therapeutic goals and comfort level. Activities may include grooming, leading, or observing horses to encourage mindfulness, emotional regulation, and self-reflection. No prior horse experience is needed, and our sessions focus on non-riding interactions designed to build trust, confidence, and personal growth.

Our therapists help you interpret your experiences and emotions, using the horses’ natural responsiveness as a tool for self-awareness and personal development building your emotional resilience, improving your communication skills, and developing healthier ways to cope with stress and anxiety.

Why horses?

Unlike humans, horses are non-judgmental and responsive, offering unconditional support and immediate feedback. This allows clients to engage in authentic, emotion-based interactions that promote healing and self-discovery.
Some reasons why horses are particularly effective in therapy include:
-
Horses can sense emotions and respond to subtle cues, allowing clients to gain greater self-awareness.
-
Through non verbal communication you learn to regulate your emotions and body language in a way that builds mutual trust and connection.
-
The relationship between the client and the horse often mirrors personal relationships, helping clients explore emotional patterns in a safe and controlled environment.
-
Spending time with horses in a natural setting promotes relaxation, stress reduction, and emotional stability.
-
Interacting with horses promotes empathy, a sense of responsibility and structure, particularly beneficial for individuals with ADHD or autism.
